Moms: the forgotten goldmine of the 21st century

I am constantly shocked by the way that once I became a mom that I seemed to disappear into the bushes of society. I have two kids now and I am still navigating my way through these new waters. Moms are the demographic that have to suck it up and do the hard work with no benefits from society, but if we were smart we would monopolize on all that moms have to give. So here is a list of all the ways that society is missing out on our skills by metaphorically shoving us in the corner:

  1. We have extremely high tolerance for adversity: When you are a mom you almost never get to do what you want to do, so we are very used to going with the flow.

  2. We have a very strong stomach: Vomit, poop, blood, snot?! We have all had it all over us and we don’t even care that much. We can handle pretty much any situation that might make normal people queasy.

  3. Our intuition is supernatural: Once you become a mom, you just know shit. You have gut feelings and they always magically seem to be correct.

  4. We always have snacks: If you want a friend that you will never go hungry around, make a mom friend! The snacks may be half-eaten, but we never let our purse be empty!

  5. We can manipulate situations for our benefit: Have you ever seen a mom navigate bedtime with multiple kids?! There are skills there that you can only learn being in the trenches with toddlers and knee deep in diapers.

  6. We can do almost anything with only one hand, WHILE BREASTFEEDING: We know that sounds impossible, but every mom can cook an entire meal with only one hand, Trust me.

  7. We are the backbone of society: We are raising the next generation in arguably one of the hardest times in history. And we are given so many challenges to make it happen along the way.

All of this is to say that moms are badass and not given the credit we deserve. Moms you are incredible and I am so in awe of how we all get up and do the damn thing. So here's to all of you that keep the world going ‘round!
